It
changed. I will no longer be updating the
ProHosting site. KillTimer's new URL will be http://members.xoom.com/killtimer/. I really must apologize,
it wasn't an anticipated move. |

I've
decided to mirror KillTimer's web site on XOOM,
the URL is http://members.xoom.com/killtimer/. So far, the ProHosting address will remain to be
KillTimer's primary distribution site, but that
may soon change. Everyone else has a cute little
button you can use to link to their site, why
can't I? ;) Should anyone want to link to
KillTimer's site, you can use the graphic below
if you want:
You
can implement it on your page using the following
code:
<a
href="http://members.xoom.com/killtimer/"><img
src="http://members.xoom.com/killtimer/getkt.gif"alt="Get
KillTimer for America Online!"
border="0" width="88"
height="31"></a>
I've
also added an easy form you can use to contact me
on the feedback page.

KillTimer
v4.9 is here! This new version finally has a menu
option for the "Smart Close" option, a
"Show / Hide AOL" option, and a new
"Random Wait" feature which will wait
for a random interval (up to a second longer)
before clicking the "Yes" button on the
"You have been idle..." dialog. This
will supposedly make it impossible for AOL to
detect that you are using KillTimer. There are
other features and enhancements as well. Get it
on the download page. |

KillTimer's website has been
redesigned and expanded! It now uses less
graphics so it loads faster then the old site,
and I've added brand new sections. I know you may
have liked the old design better (I did, too),
but this setup is much easier to maintain. While checking to see if
KillTimer's new URL has been indexed in a certain
search engine, I became aware of a webpage with
the following listing, apparently created on my
birthday:

I couldn't
retrieve the site (it has apparently been
removed, and the screen name
"KillTimer" is no longer active),
however, but would like to know a little more
about it. If you have ever been to this page
before, please e-mail me using one of the
addresses listed in the feedback section. Thanks. =)

AOL
vs. KillTimer News |

America Online took it upon
themselves to remove KillTimer's original webpage
from my FTP space, so I moved it to this new
server. I apologize for any inconvenience this
may cause. After the page was removed, I wrote TOSWeb an e-mail asking what content on my
page violated TOS. It's been months now, and
I've haven't recieved a response yet. I
recently e-mailed them again saying that I
assumed the record of the incident was removed
from my account history since they failed to
provide a valid response. America Online, in their infinite
wisdom, recently posted an updated "Terms of
Service", set to go into effect on July 15,
1998. A little something that has been added:
"We
reserve the right to log off accounts that
are inactive for an extended period of time
and we prohibit the use of tools that defeat
AOL's automatic log-off feature."
How will this
affect KillTimer? Well, I don't know. I'm still
waiting for a better definition of this clause.
How does AOL define inactivity? In the 7 months
I've made this program available, I've observed
that people wanted these programs to keep them
from getting logged off when they weren't
inactive (like during downloading, writing
mail, reading and printing web pages, playing
online games, etc.). I don't recall anyone saying
that they used it for keeping the connection
alive for no apparent reason. But, I could be
wrong. Why not vote in my online poll and make
your reason for using programs like KillTimer
known? Here are the current results.
More will come on this subject later.

Pro Information |
My previous attempts at writing a
16-bit version of KillTimer were a disaster, so
I've scrapped my original idea for the interface,
and started writing it in Borland Delphi. It won't be as small
(about 264kb right now), or quite as fast, but I
think you'll be pleased with it nonetheless. This
version should implement many of the suggestions
I get. =) Here is a screenshot of the main
window:
There
are also screenshots of KillTimer's menu and a page from the options dialog. With how fast the new
version has been program has been progressing so
far, I'm sure it won't be that long until it is
suitable for beta release. And, as always, your
suggestions for the 16-bit version will be
greatly appreciated.
